Show consistent attendance and application of effort to learn: 1. A student may not miss in excess of 10 (10) days of school on an "unexcused" basis during any one year (five days In each semester) . without becoming subject to suspension andor expulsion for the balance of that school term, with the probable consequent con-sequent loss of credit for that period. 2. "Excused" absences are constituted only by verified ver-ified Illness, work release on prior approval from the Principal, or other approved absence as determined by the Principal. 3. Students whose conduct, attitude, or application of effort ef-fort is such as to Interfere with the learning opportunity of other class members may be excluded from that class andor from school unless on -going correction is achieved. 4. a. Secondary School: "Unexcused" tardles in excess ex-cess of two during each quarter subject the student to a grade cut in that class not to exceed one fourth of the attendance weighting of that particular class in that particular quarter. Attendance Attend-ance weighting may constitute consti-tute up to 14 of the total grade. Additional tardies are subject to additional cuts of one -fourth of the attendance weighting for each tardy. b. Elementary school: Elementary school practices regarding tardiness are left up to the dlsgresslon of the Principal. B. ParentGuardian: 1. Representatives of the school shall notify parents or guardians, and shall maintain a written record, of any Incident which would become be-come part of concerns covered cov-ered In section A. 2. Representatives of the school shall verify, insofar as reasonably possible, every eve-ry absence excused or otherwise other-wise and shall maintain a written record of same, with proper notice to parents of an "unexcused" absence. C. Rights of Appeal: 1. Any student andor parent par-ent may appeal any action of school representatives in Here Is The New School Dsitrict Attendance Policy OBJECTIVE: To achieve consistent attendance at-tendance of all students attending at-tending the public school of Beaver County who will exert effort to profit from the schooling experience. RATIONALE: A. Most students achieve more nearly with their age-groups age-groups if they attend classes regularly. B. The teacher who adjusts classroom time to help the "unexcused" absentee catch up must divert time from other students unfairly thus lessening the potential benefit bene-fit to other students of the class. C. Students who are in class without intention of learning cause unnecessary expenditure of time and supplies, sup-plies, require unnecessary seating equipment expenditures, expendi-tures, often contribute toward to-ward the hiring of additional personnel, and often contribute contri-bute to a lessened staff and student morale resultinglna less than optimum learning environment. PROCEDURE: In order to correct the problems noted and to achieve the objective stated, the following policies will be carried out, effective beginning begin-ning Feb. 10, 1975. A.
