Show Mllford has been reclevlng some wide -spread publicity recently. And a lot of it is due to the friendly nature of two of its citizens and the way they treat strangers, while doing business. -0- Monday night at Council meeting the Recorder read a letter from Gerald Becker of California. He Is a pilot for Continental Airlines. It seems that some time back he and party of six, Including two children, stopped at the Mllford Mll-ford Airport for refueling and service. The letter complimentary to Lillian Cook, told of the good service, clean and friendly facilities, and special thought-fuiness thought-fuiness shown his children.. He stated; "Now when I pilot ; . . a flight over Southern Utah, I point out the national parks and clean friendly Mllford, Utah. I know that many of the passengers have a difficult diffi-cult time lndentifylng Mllford at over 30,000 feet, but I always al-ways point It out anyway. -0- The other free advertising came In the form of a four page magazine article In "Rock and Gems," a rock-hound rock-hound magazine. The article included pictures of A. L. (Mac) McDonald, as well as pictures of McDonald Opal and the diggings. The article was very complimentary com-plimentary to Mllford and the area, going Into the detail of common opal and fire opal, both of which are found at the location. Earl Spendlove of Roy, Utah, who wrote the article art-icle told "Mac" In a letter he has an article on "Old Frisco" In the April issue of "Golden West" magazine. He Is doing other articles on Beaver County in "Sunset" and "Desert" magazines. -0- "Between You and Me" salutes sa-lutes these two fine citizens, whose friendliness has brought Mllford the type of favorable publicity that money can't buy. -0- It may be a petty gripe, but I'll never understand how companies can get away with boxing kits for sale, as a unit, without including every- thing necessary to utilize it. -0- Every parent has bought their youngster a present at one time or another, only to find that In order for the youth to receive any benefit from Its use, the parent had to invest in-vest the equivalent of the original ori-ginal price or more. -0- For instance, a few years ago, we purchased a chemistry set for one of our sons. Now while some of the chemicals In the kit were duplicated, at least one from each experiment ex-periment was eliminated, necessitating ne-cessitating an additional expenditure. ex-penditure. -0- The same Is true with many other items. Appliances have a screw loose, clothes with a loose seam, a button missing, or a pocket crooked. -0-' Mass production in the U.S. has brought about an impersonal imper-sonal detachment. Employees have no pride in the finished product. We're getting a reputation rep-utation ior shabby work that Is carrying across the ocean. -0- With the most advanced technology In the history of mankind at our fingertips, we must some how recapture the pride of an Individual in a "Job well done." Whether If s the man on the assembly line, or a mechanic in a one-man one-man shop, dignity and pride are the Ingredients necessary if the U. S. is to retain It's leadership in world technology. tech-nology. -0- Mayor Young made a suggestion sug-gestion recently, that I believe warrants pursuing. Seems that some residents have suggested sug-gested naming and signing the roads and cross roads on the flat. Maybe even going so far as to list the families living on these roads. -0- Certainly, this Idea bears some looking into. It needn't ' be expensive and would be an excellent project for the South Milford Community Club. All that is needed is a bunch of 1x4 boards, stencils and paint. Would sure beat telling direction direc-tion seekers - "Ted Rimpau lives a mile west and a mile south of the Green Diamond Ranch," or "go to Barnes Corner, left a mile, then right to the second house" for Gall VanTassell.. The problem is that who ever you're directing direct-ing has to know where Barnes corner, or the Green Diamond Ranch is, which they don't. -O- Since everybody receives mall delivery at the Post Of-(Contlnued Of-(Contlnued on Pago two) JUST BETWEEN (Continued from Page One fice box In Milford, there are no mall boxes, with names to Identify Individual homes. Even after nearly four years, there are many people living on the flat that we are not 100 percent sure of their location, lo-cation, though undoubtedly) we've been by their homes many times. We think the idea has, merit. Neither the Mayor or this column wants any credit. |
