Show IT1!, The Wilson's got out of town last weekend to atte.nd the Summer Convention of the Utah Press Assn. in Richfield. Hosts were the Richfield Reaper and Marge and Norm Fuellenbach, who were most gracious and planned a beautiful beauti-ful weekend for the state's publisher.'. Thinking of Norm being gracious (which he truly is) reminds me of the winter convention con-vention in Salt Lake last year when Norm had the honor of presenting the Editor of the Year to his friend and neighbor neigh-bor publisher i.n Gunnison, Wes Cherry. Anyway Norm begin be-gin with glowing terms, and ended up by calling him an s.o.b. But he did it with tears in his eyes and love and affection affec-tion in his heart. o Anyway, Norm p1 armed a beautiful patio dinner at his home the first night and it rained, Saturday a trip to Capital Reef Nat'l. Mon., and it rained almost every time we got out of the car. Back up to Fish, Lake and a wonderful wonder-ful meal of lamb and sourdough sour-dough cooke; by Casey Phelps and his Fish and Game boys and you guessed it in the rain again. But nothing could dampen our spirits, and we had a wonderful time and seen some country, we had not previously seen. o Pollution and algae in Fish-lake Fish-lake almost reaches the proportions pro-portions of our own Minersville Miners-ville Reservoir. Cause is blamed on people pollution, summer homes, campers, etc. Construction of summer homes, resorts, etc. are being aharply curtailed in the area. wonder what impact the heavier heav-ier tourist traffic and the Leisure Sports, Inc. development develop-ment will add to the pollution pollu-tion already present from Beaver City, in the Minersville Reservoir. It has already reached the consistency of pea soup, and fish are dying from lack of oxygen. The stench makes it necessary to roll up car windows as you pass. o Phosphates dumped into the stream from above, raw sewage, sew-age, etc. are one cause of course, but removal of all thj scrap fish, poisoning and treatment treat-ment of the reservoir itself to propagate the almighty trout has been a contributor. Immediate plans are to spend $152,800 on fixing up the tourist tour-ist and campers facilities at the reservoir and the construction con-struction men will probably have to wear gas masks. o On the way home Sunday we dropped by Circleville and were pleased and delighted to see that two couples from California had moved in and started fixing up Butch Cas-sidy's Cas-sidy's old home. They have cleaned it up, replaced windows, win-dows, mowed the lawn, put signs on the highway to attract at-tract tourists, and are most gracious about showing you about. This we believe to be one of the best type of tourist attractions, at-tractions, and most every town has something along this line to promote, it's nearly pollution pollu-tion free and, though adding to the total community income does not provide a great deal of additional burden to the tax base, such as housing development, devel-opment, due to its nature it attracts people only for short periods, relieving them of a small fee and wlhat else they spend for gas, food and lodging while in town. They need no schools, water, sewer, fire protection, pro-tection, etc. o Milford we believe has a great potential for attracting tourists namely, building a ghost town in the vicinity of those old false front buildings across the tracks facing the depot. It could include buildings build-ings moved in from the old mining camps and keep with a theme of railroad and mining. min-ing. Think you can't get enough tourists to come down hiway 21 to make it pay how's this for a kicker Take a chuj'c of that granite mountain that overlooks Milford, and con-Continued con-Continued on Page Six HERE'S MORE ABOUT BETWEEN YOU & ME script with a sculptor to put a likeness of Brigham Young (or some other person) in permanence per-manence on it. That will draw thousands through Milford each year. There is probably federal financing for the sculpturing, sculp-turing, of course, if you can figure out a way to make them drive up for a closer look, where you can charge a fee. It would be a money-maker in itself. And jujst think, almost al-most 100 pollution free. Think about it! o- Of course we've got to move fast Lehi is right now in - the process of moving a ghost town into town, where it is handier for tfhe tourist, and if we twiddle our thumbs the Wasatch Front will steal our granite mountain idea. Tis a wonderful knowledge know-ledge just to know and be loved lov-ed by my many friends, young and old in this vicinity. Flowers Flow-ers to you all! Thanks. HLM |
