Show Vedco Wah Wah Start Drilling West Of Milford A drilling contract has been announced between Vedco Wah Wah Mines, Inc., and B?yles Brothers Drilling Corporation, for exploration of metal deposits de-posits in southwestern Utah. The Salt Lake City-based mining company is drilling in the old Gold Crown mine in Beaver County. The mine was operated successfully at the turn of the century, producing quantities of gold, silver, lead, ?inc, and copper. It finally had to be closed because of problems prob-lems with water seepage at 350 fee:. Mineral Services, Inc., of Salt. Lake City, has made extensive probings into the records of the old mine, and has also conducted con-ducted geological surveys for Vedco Wah Wah Miness. Their conclusion, according to the firm's president, E. M. Garrick, is that there should be a continuance con-tinuance of the original vein further down where the first shaft ended. Boyles Brothers is drilling to 600 feet on the downward projection of the mineralized zone. . The ore originally mined was in the form of oxides. According Ac-cording to Mr. Garrick, this in-, dicated that "there was a lot of metal leached cut of the vein." At the lower level, sulphide compounds are expected to be found instead of oxide compounds. com-pounds. This "secondary enrichment" enrich-ment" may contain any cf the metals originally mined, or possibly some new ones. But the concentration of metal in the ore should be much greater. As far as water seepage is concerned, Mr. Garrick said, there is no problem at this point, because this is only an exploratory drilling operation. Actually, he said, by today's standards "there wasn't that much water to begin with." Present-day pumps and other water control equipment, he explained, are capable of handling "great quantities" of water. Vedco Wah Wah Mines also owns nine other patented mining min-ing claims in the same general are:. In related action, negotiations negotia-tions have baen temporarily halted between Vedco Wah Wah Mines and the operators on both the Gold Crown and the Hope Chest tungsten claims, awaiting the results of the drilling operation and the completion com-pletion of a "cross cut" tunnel to run an additional 300 feet. This is being done, explained Vedco Wah Wah officials, in order that a "more prudent evaluation of the properties" can be made. |
