Show , Marion Walker received a letter let-ter from Olympia Brewing Co. this past week in answer to a letter and a clipping of the Beaver County News of August 6, which had a story relating the statistics on a trash survey along the highway, which was taken by the Summer Biology Class. The story stated that the loading offender in roadside pollution around Milford was beer cans. And the leading offender of-fender in this category was the Olympia cans. They had this to say: "The column you enclosed with your letter was very interesting inter-esting to us but, we do regret that due to the actions of unthinking un-thinking and irresponsible people, peo-ple, our cans wound up as litter. lit-ter. We want to assure you, Mr. Walker, that we are vitally vit-ally concerned with the problem prob-lem of litter and are doing everything within our capabilities capabil-ities to find true and feasible solutions to this environmental threat. "It is our belief that this can best be solved through a dual program of education and the enforcement of anti-litter anti-litter laws that are .now on the books in most cities and states." They went on to describe what steps they have taken to educated the people on pollution. pollu-tion. They then said this about law enforcement: "We believe that if anti-litter laws were stringently enforced en-forced by state and local authorities, auth-orities, it would do much to convince people that littering is a serious environmental crime and one that none of us can afford to commit." o Alden Johnson was in to place his ad for county assessor Monday morning and said that when a lot of people saw hia picture they would probably think he was a hippy. "Not so," says Alde.n, This beard is older than a lot of so-called hippies. "I started growing this on a cruise to Hong Kong from Calif, in 1953." It has been a part of me, ever since," he said. o The Mugleston family band, was an added attraction on Saturday Sat-urday night at the Emerson Theatre. Mrs. Mugleston, formerly for-merly of Milford, said the group had performed for Ted Mack in Salt Lake and has been invited to New York for an appearance on the Original Amateur Hour. Along the line of Theatre going Milford is fortunate to have a Theatre which is showing show-ing first run movies, consistently. consis-tently. A couple you don't want to miss are Waterhole No. 3 which ends its run tonight and "The Love Bug" an excellent Disney movie which is on this weekend. Good family entertainment. enter-tainment. Last Friday evening I took the camera up to Tiger field, and done my best to make the MHS boys look good in their uniforms. Shot a couple of rolls of film on 'em. Saturday the Milford Invitational Swim Meet beckoned and I inserted a new roll of film, left the one I took out on the counter at the shop. Our three-year-old Sean Casey decided to see what was on that roll of film and pulled it completely out of the roll All set to go another round with the photographer Tigers. Archery season opens Saturday Satur-day for those nimrods who like to mix a little of the ancient sport with their deer hunting. We see a lot of bows, riding in the back of cars, supposedly they are getting in practice for the opening. o A worthwhile proiect for anv civic minded individual or or-panization, or-panization, would be a trip to the Minersville reservoir on Sa'urdav, August 29, to help with the clean-up campaign being sponsored by the Fillmore Fill-more District of the BLM. See story on this page for details. o Hilda Shields was in yesterday yester-day and said I should cut my weeds and ask the rest of you to do the same. Alright Hilda, but not until after the paper is out, and on a night when I get home before be-fore dark. |
