Show UNION PACIFIC SPENDING $3 MILLION ON TRACK WORK A $3.1 million 1970 track maintenance program in Utah by Union Pocific Railroad is scheduled for completion early this summer, Edd H. Bailey, president, announced. Track crews began in February Feb-ruary replacing 33.98 miles of main line rail with new 133-lb continuous welded rail. Strings of the new rail measuring 1440 feet are being installed between Milford and Bloom, replacing 131-lb rail laid in 1942. In a second program, tie and ballast gangs recently began tie renewals and surfacing and lining 123 mles of track in Utah. Replacement of 72,600 ties is programmed. Approximately Approxi-mately 69,900 cubic yards of ballast will be used in the surfacing sur-facing and lining work. Mr. Bailey said the combined rail replacement projects will cost the railroad company $2,-289,000. $2,-289,000. Tie and ballast work will cost $830,500, he said. |
