Show MINERSVILLE PLANING NEW IRRIGATION SYSTEM FOR FIELDS Since completion of the Minersville Watershed flood control work the efforts of the watershed crew have been devoted to plans and desigrs for reorganizing the irrigation irriga-tion system. Ralph Pearson, chairman of the Twin-M Soil Conservation District, stated that ten different preliminary pre-liminary plans have been worked up and discussed with the water users. Included were : Pressure pipelines from the Minersville Reservoir through the fields, suitable for sprinkler irrigation using steel or asbestos cement pipe; Gravity pipeline from the river diversion with booster jumps :nd pr ssirt pipelines for sprinkler irrigation: Gravity pipeline from the river diversion using pre-cast, or cast-in-place concrete pipe; Concrete lining from the diversion di-version to the fields with booster boost-er pumps, pressure pipelines for sprinkler irrigation; Open concrete lining to the fields with pre-cast or cast-in-pla?e concrete pipe through the fields for gravi'y irrigation; Concrete lined canals and laterals. These different systems were worked up by the Soil Conservation Conser-vation Service Propect Office at Minersville. Estimated cost for the various systems is between be-tween $241,252 and $1,278 813. The directors of the Minersville Miners-ville Irrigation Co. met periodically period-ically to help plan and review the different irrigation systems. After many meetings, much discussion dis-cussion and several field trips, including into Nevada and I Idaho to observe different ir-! ir-! rigation systems in operation, the Minersvile Irrigation Co. decided to install a gravity pipeline system from their head Parshall Flume through the fields. Steel pipe will be used so that it can be pressurized pressur-ized for sprinkler irrigation, if desired and feasible at a later date. The estimated cost is $425,000, with about 50 of that amount expected to come from the Small Watershed Act. The company also has made-application made-application for aloan from the Utah Water Resources Board. Bill Wood states that the irrigation system will improve efficiency, reduea labor requirements, re-quirements, and increase income. in-come. The increased income will enable the Minersville farmers to better cope with rising costs and slow the rate at which some farmers are forced to leave their farms and move into industry to obtain a livelihood. The entire county coun-ty will benefit from this boost in the economy. |
