Show I.AGLE SHOOTERS IN JAIL Two men convicted of wounding wound-ing a golden eagle near Stockton Stock-ton are currently serving sentences sent-ences in the Davis County jail. A Tooele County rancher reported re-ported the men to federal authorities, au-thorities, who picked up the bird and took it to the Tracy Aviary. The men claimed they did not recognize the birds as an eagle, so they shot it for coyote bait. Federal Judge Willis Wil-lis W. Ritter sentenced each man to 90 days in federally approved ap-proved prison. The men appealed appeal-ed their sentences in the Denver Den-ver District Federal Court. That judge upheld Judge Rit-ter's Rit-ter's decision. Eigles, hawks and owls are protected in Utah by state law and eagles are also protected by strict federal regulations. |
