Show ilford Legion to Observe Birth Anniversary Saturday All Milford-area veterans and their ladies have been invited to attend the annual Birthday Party Saturday, March 2. The invitation was issued by Bill Wunderlich, Commander of Milford Post 16, and Norman Baxter, vice commander and birthday party chairman. Festivities will get under way at 8 p. m. when local Legionnaires greet Arden Stewart of Vernal, State Com- mander, and Dean C. Hall, State Adjutant, and their ladies. Commander Com-mander Stewart will be the Birthday Speaker. At 9 p. m. the floor will be cleared, Commander Baxter said, the Ladies of the Auxiliary will spread a smorgasbord on convenient con-venient tables, and Jake Schow will tune up his orchestra to play for dancing. The smorgasbord smorgas-bord will be open thruout the evening. "The Legion must push forward for-ward to keep America strong, both morally and militarily. Legionnaires Le-gionnaires realize that there are those who would undermine under-mine and weaken the morale fibre of America. We seek to instill in America's youth a love of country and a knowledge knowl-edge of and respect for those ideals upon which the Republic was founded. American Legion programs are aimed squarely at thos objectives." "Birthday time is an appropriate appro-priate time to extoll our past accomplishments. A major achievement was the publication publica-tion of 'Guidelines for Teaching Teach-ing Communism,' a booklet prepared pre-pared in cooperation with the National Education Association designed as a guide for high school teachers in instructing our young people about the dangers and philosophies f Communism." Commander Wunderlich also pointed out that last year 13,891 teams competed in American Legion Baseball, 27,000 boys attended at-tended the various Boys' States, the Legion contributed more than $7 million to Child Welfare, Wel-fare, and more than 355,000 high school students participat- |
