The Mobile unit will be at the Elementary School from 3 p. m. to 7 p. m. to draw 100 pints (or more) from West Beaver County donors. "The Red Cross Blood Program Pro-gram serves our people around the clock," said Jackie Williams, Wil-liams, hospital superintendent and blood program chariman. "Blood is received regularly by our hospital from the Red i Cross, and additional supplies are available at any time they are needed. There is never any charge made for the blood and only a nominal fee for administering ad-ministering it to the patients." And there are many other uses for the blood, besides the whole-blood transfusions, Mrs. Williams pointed out. These include: in-clude: Serum albumin, to treat burn and shock cases; Fibrinogen, to stem severe hemorrhaging; Gamma Globulin, to treat chronic infections of the ear, nose, throat, lungs, and for prophylaxis for some diseases; Vaccinia Immune Globulin, for severe reactions to smallpox vaccinations; Fresh Frozen Plasma, for hemophilic bleeders; bleed-ers; Packed Red Cells, for those who need only this portion por-tion of blood; Irradiated Plasma, Plas-ma, for specific needs requiring requir-ing only the plasma from blood; and others. "Our responsibility in return for these services," Mrs. Williams Wil-liams said, "is to produce our quota of blood donors when the mobile unit comes to Milford. Mil-ford. All organizations are urged to canvass their members and solicit donors for the Monday Mon-day drawing. Bill Wunderlich, commander of The American Legion, pointed point-ed out that there is a special blood-donor cap emblem for Legionnaires who donate one pint or more, and urged local Legionnaires to "Make this a Legion Day at the Blood Bank and earn your cap ornament. Jackie keeps a record of all donors," he added, "and after this drawing she will check the Legion roster against the donor roster, and advise our adjutant as to which Legionnaires Legion-naires are entitled to wear the attractive cap ornament." The Legion also has special cap emblems for 1-gallon and 5-gallon donors. |
