Show By the JOURNALISM CLASS of MILFORD HIGH SCHOOL Mrs. Mary McCully, Instructor VOCATIONAL DAY The students of M. H. S. who were selected to represent the i.ehcol at Vocational Day left at 7:00 a.m., Saturday morning. The first events started at 9 a.m. and continued until afternoon. There were students representing the Art, Business, Shop and Home Ec. Departments. Depart-ments. From the Shop Department the following items were entered: en-tered: a coffee table, made by Ronnie Turner which received first place; a gun cabinet, made by Ronnie Culver, which received re-ceived first place; and a chest made by Doug Cook, which received a third place. First, second and third places pla-ces were won by Pat Walker, Geneva Lee, and Lola Lamb in the Pie Baking contest in Home Ec. The results of the Business Department are not yet known but it is hoped that Milford had done well in this field also. ART CLASS The art class of M. H. S. has been carving on driftwood for about a month. They have been carving such things as trays, the making of faces, lamp bottoms, and some of the students stu-dents are carving different structures. stru-ctures. Mr. Lewis, the art instructor, in-structor, has set Wednesday, April 25, as the final day for these carvings. TRIAL REGISTRATION Trial registrations were given gi-ven to M. H. S. students, Thursday, Thur-sday, April 19. There will be six classes a day, consisting of longer periods. Classes next year will not necessarily follow this particular parti-cular form, but it gives the school administration an idea of how many classes the students stu-dents are enrolled in. Also the students are able to plan their subjects for next year. PHYSICAL FITNESS The 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th grades P.E. classes have been participating in the state wide physical fitness tests. These tests include such activities act-ivities as Broad Jumping, Running Run-ning Races, Baseball Throws, and Sit Ups. These tests are graded individually indi-vidually for the students personal per-sonal knowledge, therefore, no competition is present. "AMERICANISM, MY RESPONSIBILITY" . "Americanism, My Responsibility" Responsi-bility" was the theme of a contest sponsored by the American Amer-ican Legion Auxiliary. ' The winners in the high school contest were: Hal Edwards 1st and Roger Memmott, 2nd place in the senior division; in the Junior division, Linda Roberts 1st and Bruce Mayer 2nd. In the District contest, the winners of the high school had to compete with the other high schools in Southern Utah. Roger Memmott placed second in the Senior division and Linda Lin-da Roberts placed first in the Junior Division. BOOK DISPLAY Text books dealing in science and mathamatics have been on display in the library the past few days. The books, brought from Beaver, were placed tn the library by the curriculum director, Mr. Paul LeFevre, in order for the teacher to chose the books they feel will be best for the next year. BOYS STATE Again this year, boys were chosen from the class of '63 to go the Boys State for the purpose pur-pose of learning Americanism. The boys who were chosen to go are: Hal Edwards, Roily Bacon, Tim Fisher, Danny Price, Ronnie Culver and Kenny Ken-ny Wright. Boys State will start on July 4th, and end a week later, July 14. The boys are sponsored spon-sored by the American Legion and the Community Clubs. When the boys arrive at Boys State they will be divided into small groups, and will be given a hat and shirt to wear at all times while they are attending Boys State. SENIOR SLUFF The annual Milford High Senior Se-nior Sluff will be held the fourth and fifth of May. The class is going to the same place they have gone for many years Las Vegas, Nev. They will be traveling in private cars and will stay at the Wittwer Motel. While in Las Vegas, they will visit Nellis Air Force Base, Boulder Dam, and will attend a night club? They will return re-turn home Saturday. B. Y. V. INVITATIONAL Seven boys will represent M. H. S. at the B. Y. U. Invitational, Invi-tational, Saturday, April 28. These boys are: Brad Weston (100-440), Hal Edwards (220-100), (220-100), Roily Bacon (Mile) Mel Wadsworth (discuss-shot) Mike Rich (880), Gary Marshall (Dis-cuss-javelin) ; Max Nichols v (Low Hurdles). The track meet schools within a 400 mile will feature students from high radius.. An added attraction will be precission marching by girls representing each of these high schools. There will be 32 girls representing M. H. S. RIDE Early Saturday morning at 6:45, excited students were at the high school waiting for the bus to take them to Cedar for Vocational Day. The Bus driver was Mr. Sears and the advisor was Mrs. Mc-Culley. Mc-Culley. The students surely had a rewarding day and were treated treat-ed royally at the College of Southern Utah. TRIAL REGISTRATIONS April 19, trial registrations were given to students so they could figure out what classes they were going to take for the coming year. The registration was given back to the office with parents approval and signature. STUDENT COUNCIL FIXS Pins were ordered during a recent Student Council meeting. meet-ing.
