Show WELL DONE, VERNON It's usual for newspaper editorial writers to pass out bouquets to public servants and other limelighted individuals after they've passed on to a better (we're told) world, and the only ones that take pride in the writings are the relatives, sometimes the heirs, and the guys who "knew him well." We're jumping the gun. With the close or this week Vernon M. Burns closes his career as city recorder for the City of Milford, a career that started 27 years ago, and probably establishes a record in Utah, and pos-.. pos-.. sibly the West, for longevity of service in an office of-fice that doesn't pay very well but demands a lot from those who hold the office. Vernon has' been a faithful servant of our community, fulfilling his duties in an admirable and very competent manner, often advising incoming in-coming "new" city councils and town boards in the proper performance of their obligations and many, many times helping them to -avoid mistakes that- could have been costly to the city. We don't think any city or town has ever had a clerk that has been or could be more efficient than Vernon M. Burns, and along with the present pres-ent City Council, those who have served in the past as councilmen or town board members while Vernon was their recorder, advisor, and often a "father confessor," and all others who know him, we wish for him a pleasant, relaxing, and peaceful peace-ful and enjoyable "Elder Citizenship." Milford. has been fortunate to have had his ; services for 27 years. |
