Show New County Agent Named for Beaver Henry Kent Dewsnup, 26, assumed his duties as Beaver County Agent on Sept. 1. He is relieving Grant Esplin who is studying for an advanced ad-vanced degree at the University Univer-sity of Arizona. Mr. Dewsnup will complete his work for a masters degree in Agricultural Economics at Utah State University prior to filling the county extension position. He received his B.S. degree at USU in June. He is a native of Deseret, where he was raised on a farm. His mother is Mrs. A. D. Scow of Deseret. "I have a real desire to serve the rural families of Utah," Mr. Dewsnup said. "My own farm background in Utah plus the experience and education edu-cation I have had will help me evaluate and aid the people in solving their problems. I especially enjoy working with young people and farm people. peo-ple. "I believe the objectives of the farm family should be to provide rural youth the same opportunity for culture, social and vocational development as urban youth. This should be done without destroying the freedom of personal initiative provided by rural life," he said in accepting the appointment. appoint-ment. Mr. Dewsnup served a two-year two-year mission for the LDS Church in Hawaii, has held several priesthood offices, has been an MIA counsellor, scout master and Sunday School teacher. In high school he participated par-ticipated in athletics, music, and FFA judging. There he received scholarships for both scholastic and athletic purposes. pur-poses. During Dur-ing two years at the BYU his extracurricular activities were centered in music. Attending USU since 1959, he served as president of the Agricultural Economics Club and member of Alpha Zeta fraternity. He is married to the former Sandra Finlinson. |
