Show W-es Bolton Attends State Wildlife Meet W. S. Bolton of Milford attended attend-ed the annual convention of the Utah State Wildlife Federation ,at Ogden Sept. 26 and 27. Mr. Bolton's Bol-ton's report of the convention highlights follows: Of note was a dwindling attendance attend-ance which was mentioned by various var-ious speakers and delegates during the- session. Everyone present realized that some drastic action was necessary to save this organization organi-zation which is the only active representative rep-resentative of the sportsmen of Utah on a state level. After a heated debate the delegates dele-gates voted unanimously to release re-lease a $10,000 bank account for the use of the executive board in selecting and hiring a top-notch executive secretary to regain the past vigor of the organization. H ghlights of the session were talks by E. 0. Larson of the Fed eral Reclamation Bureau; Jay Bingham of the State Water and Power Board; Hugh Woodward and Bill Reavely of the National Wildlife Federation, and Harold Crane, director of the State Fish and Game Department. All speakers speak-ers emphasized the growing problems prob-lems of water resources and multiple mul-tiple use of public lands. The most important resolutions adopted pertained to expanded and liberalized rules covering the use of our public lands by the public pub-lic and urging the BLM to control overgrazing and the upgrading of grazing fees to a realistic amount commensurate with the increased cost of all other goods and services serv-ices including grazing in private pastures. A resolution was also passed requesting Congress and the Department De-partment of the Interior to amend the Taylor Grazing Act so that the BLM can control use of public domain do-main before it becomes detriment-il detriment-il to the land and to other users. Probably the most important accomplishment of the convention was the instruction of local delegates dele-gates that the State Federation must be supported at the grass roots level and the activity of the local clubs is of paramount importance. |
