Show LEGION TO SPONSOR 6 LIGHT DUTY RESCUE TEAMS AS 'CD' AIDS National. Commander John S. Gleason Jr. of The American Ameri-can Legion has announced the appointment of an advisory committee on light duty rescue res-cue teams. The committee will assist in developing American Legion rescue squads for civil defense and disaster relief assignments. Accepting appointments '. t Gen. Alfred M. Gruenther, Commander Gleason were: president of the American Red Cross ; Leo A. Hoegh, director di-rector of the Office of Defense and Civilian Mobilization ; Maj. Gen. Ralph J. Olson, (Wise. N.. G.) president of the National Association of State and Territorial Civil Defense Directors; and Walter Wal-ter R. Halstead, president of the U S Civil Defense Council. Coun-cil. Also serving on the committee commit-tee with Commander Gleason is Mrs. J. Pat Kelly, national President of the American Legion Le-gion Auxiliary. In the next few weeks, The American Legion plans to launch a nationwide light duty rescue program among its 17,000 posts and 14,000 Auxiliary Aux-iliary units. The basic plan of organization, organiza-tion, training and use of these light duty rescue teams has been worked out in detail with officials of the Federal Civil Defense Administration. All squads and teams will operate oper-ate under the control and direction di-rection of civil defense officials offi-cials at all levels of government. |
