Show Group Formed to Push for National Park at Lehmans The Great Basin Range National Na-tional Park Assn. was formed at a meeting of over 30 enthusiasts enthusi-asts from many parts of the country, held at Lehman Caves National Monument last Sunday, Sun-day, Aug. 25. Elected as the first president of the organization was Darwin Lambert, editor of the Daily Times in Ely. Named as vice presidents were W. F. Heald, well known conservationist and writer from Tucson, Ariz., and Athena Cook of Delta, editor of i the Millard County Chronicle. : Secretary-treasurer of the new i association is Glenn C. Os- borne, writer and photographer of Garrison, Utah. Five directors were elected: Judge Harry M. Watson, chairman chair-man of the former Utah-Nevada Lehman Caves Committee; Jack C. Mahoney of Milford, James I E. Heald of Ely, R. V. Taggart I of Delta, and Dr. Leslie H. j Gould of Reno, president of the Nevada chapter of the Sierra Club. The organization was 'formed for the purpose of working toward to-ward the establishment of a Great Basin Range National Park in Eastern Nevada, including includ-ing Wheeler Peak, Matthes Glacier, Gla-cier, Lehman Caves, and an appropriate ap-propriate and adequate portion of the surrounding area,, to be protected and preserved for the enjoyment, education and in-i in-i spiration of the people. |
