North Carolina has been elected International President of Lions International at the association's 39th annual convention in Miami, Florida. Lions International, with 542,828 members in 12,334 Lions Clubs in 75 countries or regions, is the world's largest service club rganization. District Governor Elect, 28-T, and Mrs. C. A. "Spud" Morley left by United Air Lines on a DC-7 on Saturday, June 23 for the 89th Annual Lions International Interna-tional Convention at Miami-Miami Miami-Miami (Beach, Fla., with stops at 1 Denver, Colo., Omaha, Nebr. and I Chicago, 111. Their traveling companions com-panions on the flight trip were District Governor Elect, 28-U, Dean and Eve Swaner of Farm-ington, Farm-ington, and District Governor Elect, 28-A, Marion and Marjorie Halliday of Provo. They arrived in Miami-Miami Beach Sunday evening and were greeted by Lion and Mrs. Francis C. Oswald who had motored to Miami via New Orleans, La. The three District Governors Elect from Utah attended a two day instruction session at Hotel Fountainebleau, with general convention sessions beginning on Wednesday, June 27 thru Saturday, Satur-day, June 30. Convention highlights included water ballet shows, bus sightseeing, sightsee-ing, (boat trips, a fashion show for the ladies at Hotel Fountainebleau; Fountaine-bleau; North Carolina Night Show at the Orange Bowl on Thursday evening, followed by Lions International dances at Hotel diLido and Hotel Fountainebleau; Foun-tainebleau; and another outstand ing show, International Night Revue at the Orange Bowl on Friday evening followed by the International President's reception recep-tion and ball at three of the largest lar-gest hotels. The banquet for the District Governor's and their wives was held on Thursday evening at the Hotel Fountainebleau, the most gorgeous and beautifully decorated decor-ated hotel of the newest hotels, and all the wives were presented with an orchid corsage. The Key Members' breakfast was held on Friday morning at 7:00 a.m. at the Fountainebleau and Seville Hotels. Voting for International officers and directors was held on Saturday morning from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Principal speaker of the morning session was The Honorable Richard M. Nixon, vice president of the U.S., and his address was received with great enthusiasm and applause. Later in the morning, the newly elected district governors' were installed at an inspiring ceremony. cere-mony. Extra added interest and activity, ac-tivity, not on scheduled program arrangement, was the delightful bathing and swimming in the pools and the Atlantic Ocean, which was truly right at one's "back door". The convention program pro-gram was full of interest, enthusiasm, en-thusiasm, thrills and much constructive con-structive instruction, and Utah was very well represented by a delegation of 40 or more present. After a very busy but enjoyable week, the Swaners, Hallidays and Morleys returned by Eastern and United Air Lines on Sunday, July 1, and was met at the airport air-port by Miss Maurine Morley, Kirs. Darlene Thorne and son Gary. The Oswalds expect to arrive ar-rive Iby car sometime the latter part oi this week. |
