The Wildcats, now 3-7-1, fell to the University of Utah Friday 6-0, the team's fourth loss in a row. For the 'Cats, Friday's loss was more of an embarrassment than anything."It was just bad." WSU senior Meagan Thunell said. The Wildcats found themselves in a deep hole early in the game when Utah sophomore Bobbie Benegas scored two goals within the first five minutes of play. "The team came out very, very flat." Thunell said. "We didn't generate any offense or play very good defense." And the Wildcats just couldn't shut them down. "They make very, very fast offensive transitions," Thunell said. "Our team had trouble adjusting to their attack." WSU head coach Lynn Kofoed had personal reasons to care about the game. Her daughter, Amy, is a senior Utah forward who was attempting to break the school record for career goals scored. On a penalty kick late in the first half, Amy scored her 38th goal of the season, tying the record. But the 'Cats were determined not to let Amy break the record against her mother's team, and they held her scoreless for the rest of the match. "One good thing is that we were trying to keep Amy from scoring and breaking the record, and we did that," Thunell said. Thunell. who is a good friend to the younger Kofoed. said she had mixed emotions about keeping Amy out of the record books. "It would have been cool for her to do it against her mom's team, but there was a little bit of pride that came into play." she said. In the second half. Thunell said the loss was a tough one to swallow, but that the Wildcats must move on and prepare for conference play this weekend. . "Granted, we shouldn't have played as poorly as we did. but Utah is a great ball club." she said. "There's nothing we can do about it now." Thunell feels the team's morale is high and that it can still do well in conference play. "Looking at records and stats.
