Show Delta Movies continued from front continued from front but the lease benefited the university. "We are losing a lot, not just Delta but the relationship that we have built with them over the years," Weight said. "We also hope that we don't lose students over this." According to Weight, Delta executives expressed they were not happy with what they had to do. They felt that since the beginning of the contract, WSU and Delta had a productive partnership and they enjoyed working with WSU students. Some students even climbed the career path at Delta, starting at the call center and moving up. WSU employees were granted two weeks pay, even though Delta Air Lines is not required to give severance packages because employees receive only hourly wages. Employees will also be able to keep their flight benefits until Oct. 17. "I liked my job because the pay was all right, it was close to campus and had a really flexible schedule," said Kim Shumway, a now unemployed WSU student. Students are now feeling a loss of direction. The convenience of on-campus employment, flexibility with school, travel benefits and interaction with other WSU students are just a few perks that Delta employees expressed."I was thinking about attending the University of Utah, but the only thing that kept me here were the travel benefits," said Tim Summers, a 10-month employee. "Now that I don't have a job, maybe I will just transfer now." Now more than 150 unemployed WSU students are going to be actively searching for similarjobs in the "This is the only job I have ever had. I don't even know how to go about looking for a new job. Weight and the Career Service Center are ready and willing to help students find replacement jobs. They understand the huge impact that has been felt by Delta leaving campus. "We just won't let the office space go to waste," Weight said. "We will try to find another company that will be able to replace it." "If a student takes art history, should he or she be allowed to choose what pieces of art they look at? In an introduction to music course, if a student cannot stand classical music, should the instructor alter the course content for them?" Jensen asked. He went on to mention that some students who hate Western movies or those who hate horror movies are not allowed alternatives. Jensen feels that university students are bright enough and have the ability to make discerning choices. "Watching R-rated movies is not a problem for some students," Bybee said. "However, for other students, it is against their beliefs. So, when a professor requires students to watch something that goes against their personal value system, I have a problem with that." "I would be the first to stand up for the right of any student to refuse to view any film that they might find objectionable. However, this is an academic issue," Jensen said. "I would be remiss to ignore portions of this class for reasons based on criteria other than the artistic worth of the film." The student senate assigned the issue to the senate academic affairs committee, who will investigate the student complaints further. "We will take this straight to the WSUS A Supreme Court if necessary. They are designed to deal with things like this." You can reach reporter Casey Cummings by calling 626-7659. Arroyo also saw hope in the future through the efforts of student leaders, administration and the community."This group of student leaders and officers are desirous of being inclusive. There has been a reaching out to multicultural students," she said. "There's a lot that needs to be worked on, but there has been great improvement," Arroyo said. A diverse experience in the Latino cultures of Central and South America filled the ballrooms with song, dance and traditional food. "I love this. It brings me back to my roots," exclaimed Cristina Alvear, a native of Chile. Alvear came to the United States in 1 998 and was excited about the banquet.
