Show MB a IHotj if oiiiiSKSlDQinies By KIM HARRIS THACKER special assign, editor The Signpost Whether rushing to and from class or on the way to work after school, the fast food services on campus offer a variety of foods for those who are "on the go." According to John Soules, director of dining services at Weber State University, Chartwells, the campus dining administration, is a part of an international organization called The Compass Group. Chartwells provides all food service on the WSU campus, except for vending. From subs to sit-down dining, Chartwells offers popular food items at competitive prices to the local market on campus. Many new foods will be served as part of the updated fall menu offered by Chartwells. Promontory Tower has its own Chartwells-sponsored dining area. In addition, the Shepherd Union Building houses other popular Chartwells dining services. Located in the SUB are The Skyroom (a finer-dining area), The Junction (a convenience-type store), and The Gallery (a food court of sorts). Many food stations, including some new ones, are all found together in The Gallery for the convenience of patrons. This fall, the former site Sandwich Central will be called Sub-Generation. Not only have names changed, but the sandwiches have, too. There are now eight kinds of sandwiches or low-carb wraps (complete with ample toppings) available. Last year's Trattoria has been changed to Freschetta Oven for the fall. It will be serving Italian-style foods, as the name suggests. "Freschetta is about the best pre-made" pizza you can buy. People seem to really like them," said Randy Halverson, operations manager for Chartwells. The popular Chick-fil-A will stay in the same location this year. The south bar, connecting to Chick-fil-A, is the site of a new food station. Wild Greens Outtakes is the home of eight new salads. Halverson explained that at your basic restaurant-style salad bar, salad ingredients are exposed to room-temperature air. Wild Greens Outtakes will pre-package their salads so they stay cold and fresh. At the north end ofChick-fil-A will remain the bakery items and the drink section of the food court. The latest items found at All-Star Players Grill (formerly known as Fresh Grille) include traditional ' J- t - , '? Chartwells servers Thomas Jackson (center) and Alice Stout (right) prepare customers' food and make fresh-to-order wraps and sandwiches at The Junction. Chartwells continues to provide WSU with dining services at The Junction, Gallery and Skyroom. breakfasts served from 7 a.m. and a lunch menu featuring many items, such as hot sandwiches, burgers and chicken, with accompanying side dishes. "We have available to students a lot of different things," Soules said. This is a step in the right direction, according to Jason Nelson, WSU senior. "The variety of foods are pretty good, but I think they could have more of the popular fast foods," Nelson said. The selection of foods has grown for this fall, and according to Soules, Chartwells has made it a point to find out what students like and to model the foods they offer after those items. As most students at WSU do not live on campus, Chartwells has done their best to cater to commuters' needs as well. "This year, we'll have credit card machines at all the registers," Soules said. "That'll help students a lot." Commuters can also buy meal plans. Soules explained these plans and the benefits they would offer. "We have three choices for students a $100, $200 or $300 plan. If they sign up and buy their plan two weeks prior to school starting, or until the first week after school starts, we'll give them extra points at no cost," said Soules. Students also don't pay any tax on meal plans. These "points" can also be used at any location on campus. "That makes it very convenient very easy for all of the students," Soules said.
