In 1954, Weber State College opened its doors to 1,547 students at the Harrison location. Since then, Weber State College has emerged into a university with more than 18,000 students on four different campus locations across the state of Utah. The degree program selection has evolved to include 215 undergraduate degrees and four master's degrees. Last year, WSU opened its doors to welcome students in the Layton area to the new WSU-Davis Campus. This facility offered 208 classes taught by more than 100 faculty members during spring semester of 2004. WSU will continue to expand and improve campus by following the university Master Plan for renovation and improvement. The Central Quad Master Plan was created underneath the university Master Plan and will give a facelift to the area located in the center of campus near the Stewart Bell Tower and David O. McKay Plaza. in the beDtemDer tioara of Regents meeting, and administrators will begin to look into funding options next year. Although WSU has expanded and changed during the last five decades, it has always served as a breeding ground for new ideas and as a stimulant for higher education. WSU is an exceptional institution because students can receive personal attention. WSU has a ratio of approximately 22 students per one faculty member, ensuring that four out of five classes have fewer than 30 students in them. Every student who comes onto campus has access to professional academic advisement for counsel on what degree or career path to pursue. Each student, after declaring a major, will be placed within one of the eight degree categories on campus. Each degree category has an elected student senator who can give the voice of the students a chance to be heard when discussing major issues with administrators. There are other senators who represent nearly every diverse faction of students found on campus. Students at WSU have access to 479,225 bound volumes of text and 192,782 electronic resources via the Stewart Library. With the interlibrary loan feature, students can request volumes from other The WSU online education program allows students to participate in class while in the comfort of their own homes. This program has expanded to include more than 300 courses, while the independent study option allows students to start anytime and work from anywhere. When out of the classroom, students have several activities on campus they can participate in. The university has more than 100 registered clubs and organizations, everything from the WSU Outdoor Club to the Child and Family Studies Student Association. The Swenson Gymnasium and C. William Stromberg Center provide equipment for students' physical fitness desires. Students can also participate ' in campus activities by attending sporting events at the Stewart Stadium, the Dee Events Center and the Ogden Ice Sheet. WSU has 13 intercollegiate sports that compete at the NCAA Division I level. The university also offers more than 14 club sports with intramural competitions. While either learning in the classroom or experiencing the social opportunities presented by various entities on campus, students will see a variety of opportunities for development and personal growth.
