Preliminary Construction on the new Ethel Wattis Kimball Visual Arts Center began the second week in July. While the new building will be a great addition to the University in another 18 months or so, many students, faculty and staff are --.. cursing the major construction and disruption it is causing in Jhe mean time. Both the A-10 and pay parking lot have been closed for construction. The pay parking lot (pictured above) is supposed to be finsihed before the begining of school, August 28. The workers are installing utility pipes that will be connected to the Ethel Wattis Kimball Visual Arts Center. Construction workers (top) are working outside the Student Service Center. Police from page 7 the shuttle bus does run until 10 " p.m. Monday through Thursday, and until 5 p.m. on Friday, some students are uncomfortable with being alone during late night and early morning hours. One can ac- cess this service by calling 626-6460. Officers will try to get as - - close to, door to door service as they can. "Officers will respond to escort calls as soon as possible," Fielding said. "However, there may be . times when a caller would have to wait for an officer to clear from - -f" another call before they can re spond." In addition to constant patrols, the police department tries to make the campus safer for everyone by filling out "lights out reports" which are for- - warded to facilities manage ment. These reports allow officers to show what lights on campus need repair. The department also has several brochures and programs designed to educate students, fac- - ulty and staff about how to be safe while on campus. Brochures on crime prevention and rape prevention are available from the department, at the Wasatch Hall and Promontory Tower desks and the Shepherd - Union Building Information Desk. 'The brochures are designed to give students information on how to protect themselves and make themselves less likely to be a victim of crime," Fielding said. In addition to the brochures, the department has a bicycle registration program and Officer Mike Davies teaches a Rape Aggression Defense course. Anyone interested in these programs should contact the dispatch office at Annex 4 or by phone at 626-6460.
