Show Wednesday, May 30, 1990 THE SIGNPOST 7 Greeks share fun and service during year By Greek Organization members Contributing writers forThe Signpost La Dianaeda Sorority During the past academic year of 1989-90, La Dianaeda Sorority has done various ' activities. During fall quarter we participated in Weber State's Homecoming activities. We decorated a float for the Homecoming Parade and gave the football team our support. We were also excited that one of our sisters won Homecoming queen. Throughout the year we have participated in many community service projects. One of the projects we enjoyed the most was delivering balloons to the Washington Terrace Nursing home for Valentine's Day and again on St. Patrick's Day. During spring quater we held our annual Spring Formal at Sherwood Hills County Club. We were able not only to show off our dates, but to give out various awards to outstanding members of our sorority. In May we also participated in Greek Week. We won various awards inlcuding runner up in advisor of the year, Greek Woman of the Year, t , . i S . T . . "-Y . Fraternities and sororities are friendship systems for students. Sisterhood Award, Most Improved Chapter and Community Service Award. We are looking forward to next year and hope many new faces become a part of the sisterhood of La Dianaeda. Pi Kappa Alpha Pi Kappa Alpha has greatly appreciated the opportunity to work with Weber State. We have enjoyed providing services for the college and would like to thank those individuals responsible for organizing the various activities we have participated in. It was a pleasure working tconcession stands at both football and basketball games, while we cheered on the teams. In intramural athletics, we strived to excel in team spirit and good sportsmanship during competition. We have tried to present a positive image to the campus and community, and we believe that helping others is a top priority. We look forward to working with the student body and promoting fraternities, sororities and the opportunities that being a Greek offers. We look forward to next year and to serving Weber State Univeristy. Xi Delta Pi Sorority Xi Delta Pi Sorority has been involved in numerous activities throughtout the year. We have volunteered time to the community action Head Start program for pre-school children. We have adopted three elderly women in the community as our Xi Delta Pi Grandmas. We have raised money to support the women's crisis center at Your Community Connection, and we have volunteered our time to the Special Olympics. Xi Delta Pi places emphasis on our sisters becoming well-rounded individuals. We have participated in the Sun Fest by providing drinks to those who attended, while we enjoyed the music. During Greek Week this year we were honored with an award for maintaining the highest grade point average. Winning the volleyball tournament helped us receive third place over all for the week. Xi Delta Pi offers a social outlet by providing exchanges with fraternities and sisterhood activities such as hayrides, overnight retreats at Powder Mountain, mountain bike trips to Moab and midnight excursions to J.B.'s. It has been a great year for our sorority and we would like to wish everyone a wonderful summer. Editor's note: All greek organizations were invited to contribute to this Sign -off edition. Hi s time was good enough for a fifth place conference : and 14th place District Seven fihishll:li Other Wildcat finishers included Bob Durtechi, who ; finished 31:36, seventh place .;. in the Big Sky; Duane West, who finished ninth in 31:41. Other winners were John Purin, who finished 10th in 31:42; Brad Barton, who finished 23rd in 32:09; Todd Davis, who finished 29th in 32:31; and Shawn Singleton, who finished 36th in 32:42. It was the Wildcats third conference team title and their first since 1977. Hislop was named the Big Sky's fall Coach of the Year for 1989.
