Tomorrow they travel with the team to California for the Riverside Invitational. Weber 'STOck fleom enters Co I if. meet The Weber State Track Team travels to Riverside, California, this weekend to enter the Riverside Track and Field Invitational on Saturday. This annual meet will feature competition from over a dozen schools including a couple of the nations's top-ranked division 2 track powerhouses. An unusual factor in the meet will be that each race heat will have its own separate winners and the best heat times will not be compared to determine the overall winner. Each heat will be treated as a separate race. Seeding of the heats will take place, though. At sea level The Weber State Tracksters will be competing in their usual events at the meet, but the Wildcat distance runners-Doug Friedli, Lyn Strong, Bill Tervort and Keith Knowles are expected to obtain a considerable improvement on their performances since the meet will be staged at sea level. Ogden is at an altitude of about 4300 feet and the closer to sea level the more the oxygen. Thus, a near sea-level race helps a distance runner's breathing. Rely heavily The Cat thinclads will rely heavily for the bulk of their points on: Friedli, Strong, Larry Rose and Mike Vaughn (pole vault); Clyde Barker and Mark Von Iderstein (440 hurdles); Ron Russell (880) and Kevin Coombs (long and triple jumps). Next meet Following this California meet, Weber has only an invitational meet in Logan on May 15th to prepare them for the all-important Big Sky Conference Meet on May 22nd in Flagstaff, Arizona. |
