Grapes and melons are ripening: tomatoes, cabbages, and other .vegetables .vege-tables are ready for use. Frank TJonelli and his sister. Alice, were up from Kioville for the 4th. They were guests of Miss Pearl Perkins. Mrs. M. A. Bunker of St. Thomas has been quite sick the past week, but it is hoped site will soon be out again. Our 4th of July passed oil" very nicely. Ca.mons were lired at daybreak, and '(.'(!( rlory" was raised at sunrise by AVbliani Angell and Andrew Jones. Two beautifully decorated iloats were seen passing through the street at 9:30 o'clock: on one rode the Goddess of Liberty, Miss Octavia Cobb: Xevada. represented by Miss Mary V. Perkins, and thirteen small girls -representing the thirteen original states. On the other iloat rode Uncle Sam and eight small boys, representing eight generals of (he late war. A meeting was held in the bowery at 10 a m., where a very interesting program was carried out. Dinner was spread in the bowery, and after a good feast the afternoon was spent in horse races, egg and potato races, and a children's dance. A grand ball m the evening closed the 4th with us here, ail having' enjoyed a pleasant day. |
