Wilford Woodruff, president of the Chur.'.h of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, oied in this city at 7 a. m. yesterday at vhe residence of Isaac Trumbo. At his death-bed were his wife and several close friends, including George Q. Cannon Can-non of the first presidency and Bishop Hiram 1!. C'lawson. For some time the aged president had suffered from kidney kid-ney and bladder troubles, but in appearance ap-pearance he was vigorous, and though over 91 years of age, it was predicted that he would live to the century mark. A few months ago he showed signs of weakness, and in July came to this city to secure a much needed rest, lie seemed benefitted by the change of climate, and at a dinner given in his honor at the 'ohemian club a few nights ago, at which no man under 80 years of age was seated, he was declared to be the most active of the party. Yesterday he spoke of going out fishing, but in the evening he complained com-plained of feeling ill. Dr. Anderson, his physician, called in Drs. McNutt Iff M 4fti PRESIDENT WOODRUFF. and Buckley, and after consultation they decided that there was little hope, nis body was placed in a special funeral ear attached to the train, which left for Salt Lake at 0 o'clock in the evening. Mrs. Woodruff, President Presi-dent Cannon and Bishop Clawson accompanied ac-companied the remains. |
