Show I'AXACA, NEVADA, There was a slight frost last night, but no damage to crops. Bp. Ronnow will go to Salt Lake to attend the funeral of Pres. Woodruff. The sad intelligence of the death of our beloved President Woodruff was received yesterday. The infant daughter of Walter and Annie Long died at Pioehe and was buried at Panaea yesterday. It was their only child and they have the sympathy of their many friends. On account of a flood, which filled our ditch with sand, we have had no water in town for about a week. The weather has been so threatening that we thought it advisable to put off cleaning clean-ing out the ditch until it became settled, fearing a repetition of last week's work. It will be quite expensive to turn these floods from town, but I think that will be one of the next moves. It certainly ought to be. Your correspondent has an interest iu "Dixie," certain bonds of affection and childhood attachments that bind me to the place and its people. I rejoice re-joice in her prosperity, and believe that the News if properly supported will do much good for that section of the country. The people should awake to a realization of that fact and subscribe sub-scribe for the paper and assist it in every possible way, that it may continue con-tinue as it has commenced, to be a bright, newsy sheet. On the 31st ult. we had the greatest time socially, that 1 presume, Panaca ever had. The occasion was a farewell benefit party for Milton L. Lee, who starts today on his mission to the Netherlands. Neth-erlands. We so far completed our new hall as to be able to use it, so we extended ex-tended invitations to our surrounding neighbors, who promptly responded, filling the large hall to overflowing. Vfter dancing a few hours, we all went to supper, which had been prepared by the ladies: after doing justice ('rj to the bounties of life, we resumed dancing until near daybreak, when we all dispersed. dis-persed. There were about tsree hundred hun-dred people present and not a hitch to mar the peace. A purse of 671. was taken in and presented to Bro. Lee to assist him in performing his m:s:io:!, lor which ho was very crattfal. |
