The programs are being arranged by Camp Shows, Inc., a non-profit agency of the USO, which is also supervising 24 theatrical the-atrical units touring the camps. Each concert will be a complete entertainment program with no admission charged and "name" musicians and other performers contributing their services. Army Engineer's Office In conjunction with the transfer trans-fer of the former Quartermaster Corps Construction Division to the Corps of Engineers, a new district engineer office has been established at Salt Lake City. To Aid Honolulu The Federal Works agency announced an-nounced Presidential approval of the first Defense Public Works project to aid a war-damaged community a grant of $295,145 to provide for additional fire-fighting fire-fighting equipment for the city and county of Honolulu. Liner Being Converted The Navy announced the former form-er French super-liner Normandie is being converted into a naval auxiliary vessel named the U. S. S. Lafayette. The name for the 83,-433-ton ship, seized by the Coast Guard Dec. 21st ,was assigned by Secretary Knox at the direction of President Roosevelt. Authorizes Recall The War Department author- : ized recall of all inactive enlisted Reservists, including members of the Enlisted Reserve Corps, the Regular Army Reserve and the National Guard, to active duty by Feb. 1, 1942. The department said the majority affected are former trainees and National Guardsmen recently released from active duty. Deferments under Selective Service regulations will be subject to more stringent requirements re-quirements than heretofore, the department said. The department also announced it will not abandon voluntary enlistment en-listment as a method of procuring procur-ing men for the Army or deny young men the right to volunteer for military service. The age limit for initial enlistment will be ' from 18 to 35 years. Recent legislation leg-islation has excused men 18 and 19 years of age, the department said, from liability for training and service, but permits them to volunteer for induction under the Selective Service training and service act. Priorities and Allocations The Office of Production Management Man-agement restricted use of ethyl alchohol in toilet soaps, mouth washes, rubbing alcohol, bay rum, candy glazes and similar items during January to 85 per cent of the amount used in the same month of 1941. After January, the restriction will be 70 per cent of amount used in each corresponding cor-responding month preceding June 30, 1941. Civilian Defense Office of Civilian Defense volunteers vol-unteers have been requested not to buy uniforms unless such uniforms uni-forms are absolutely necessary to their work.
