Show Dixie Now Rated As Dark Horse of League; Tackles Kanab-Hurricane Those Dixie Flyers, who were told it couldn't be done, went to Cedar City last Friday with their own thoughts on the subject, and almost overnight came out as a dark horse in the high school basketball race in this district. Whether the dark horse will prove merely a black nightmare, or whether Coach Hafen's lads really have the goods, will be demonstrated tonight and Saturday Satur-day night when they meet the strong Kanab and Hurricane high teams. Kanab will play in the local gym tonight. After a day of rest the Blue and White will travel to Hurricane for the supreme su-preme test. Dixie Calm A calm and determined five held the strong Cedar team to 4 paints the first quarter while they were collecting 3 themselves. them-selves. The Flyers took the lead shortly after and held it by a small margin through practically the entire time during the re-(Continued re-(Continued on page three) Dixie High Basketball (Continued from First Page) maining quarters, winning out in a final spurt 28-22. The boys played their best game of the year to down the Red Men. Their defense was particularly outstanding, but their team play and general handling of the ball was almost faultless. They were also able to make baskets when they needed them. Coach Hafen started an almost entirely different lineup against Orderville Saturday to win again 38-17 in the local gym. Dixie, therefore, stands temporarily tempor-arily at the top of the heap with two victories, with Hurricane and Enterprise each a winner in one game played by each. Kanab Game Changed The game with Kanab had been originally scheduled for tomorrow but was changed to avoid conflict con-flict with the college schedule. If the Flyers can win this one, the game at Hurricane Saturday night should be a natural. On the other hand, if the Dixie boys have been playing over their heads, this fact will soon be known. Enterprise goes to Cedar tomorrow, to-morrow, while the Valley high will entertain Hurricane. Saturday Satur-day Cedar and Hurricane will mix at Parowan. Other results of last week were: Enterprise 48, Orderville 14; Hurricane 38, Kanab 21; Kanab Kan-ab 47, Parowan 31. |
