Show Wayne Gardner Reports On Regional Stock Growers' Meet In North Returning last week end from Salt Lake City where he attended the regional conference of stock growers grow-ers of the ten western states, Wayne C. Gardner, who represents the State of Arizona under the Taylor Grazing set-up brings encouraging en-couraging word to the sheep and cattlemen of this area. Conference of 10 States Representing four million live stock and fifty million acres of grazing land, the conferenca of the ten western states was held for the purpose of making a definite def-inite study and reporting their recommendations to the government govern-ment with respect to the cattle industry arc its part in the present pres-ent na; ional emergency. Along with other business, they assigned a committee to make a formal study and give the range code a final check-up before it is handed to the Secretary of the Interior. Meeting as an advisory council under the Taylor Grazing act, the conference held in Salt Lake City Jan. 5 and 6, gave full consideration consider-ation and discussion of the range appraisal with the regional graz-;rs graz-;rs and the director of grazing and came to their conclusions after a thorough survey of the situation. x Included among their recom-nendations recom-nendations they urge that no naterial changes come with respect res-pect to grazing and the "reasonable "reason-able fee" for same, commending the Grazing service for their fairness fair-ness and sincerity, but asking that any changes be deferred until after the emergency. Educational Program They urge also an educational , program throughout the western states for the purpose of ac-. ac-. quainting the entire public with the necessity of cooperating with stock growers in preserving the , ranges from fire loss, and from j other dangers of sabotage, and i other subversive activities which may come as a result of the pres-ent pres-ent war situation. They urge further, the improve-' improve-' ment in quality of cattle and ' sheep that the poundage may be ' preserved without undue increase in numbers, and that a careful census be made with age designations desig-nations to form a working basis for determining the forward looking look-ing vitality of the industry. They ask also that concerted effort be made to coordinate the policies of all Federal handling agencies for protection of the livestock industry in-dustry throughout the U. S. |
