Show HURRICANE Miss Julia Whitney Reporter A farewell party was held Tuesday, Tues-day, Jan. 6th, at the home of Miss Glenna Webb for Earl Spend-love Spend-love and Malan Gibson. Card playing was engaged in during the evening and light refreshments were served. The two men left Monday for Los Angeles where they have employment. The card club held a party at the home of Mrs. Marie Stan-worth Stan-worth on Monday to which 12 guests were present. Mrs. Ora Reeve and Mrs. Ruby Moody were special guests of the evening. Mrs. Annie Hirschi received the prize for high score and Mrs. Margaret Snow received consolation prize. Both the elementary and high schools have erected a new flag pole in front of their buildings. Monday morning the high school students assembled in front of the building to watch the flag raised. Lafayette Staheli played "Colors", and the students stood at attention atten-tion while the Stars and Stripes were being hoisted in the air. The Pledge of Allegiance was the repeated re-peated by the students after which Owen Hall gave a short talk on "Respect To the Flag". The elementary ele-mentary school held a similar ceremony Tuesday morning. A farewell party was held Tuesday Tues-day evening in the stake chapel for Tren Spendlove, Mads Gibson, Rondo Ruesch, Eldon Cox, Wood-row Wood-row Ashton and Del Neagle, who are leaving for the Army in a short time. The M.I. A. of St. George presented pre-sented the play, "Should We Have Children?" at the high school gymnasium Monday evening. eve-ning. The proceeds from the play are to be used in buying Era subscriptions for the boys serving in the Army. Mr. and Mrs. Newell Frazier and two children of Marysvale spent Sunday and Monday visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wilson, her parents. Warren Pitts accompanied them also. Don Gibson left Monday for Los Angeles where he has employment. em-ployment. Mr. and Mrs. William Woodbury Wood-bury and family spent Sunday visiting with relatives in St. George. Mr. and Mrs. Otto J. Garner of St. Paul. Minnesota, spent the past week visiting with her parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. John Sanders. Karl McMullin, who has spent the past two months in Salt Lake City receiving medical care at the ! Veterans' hospital, returned home recently. Miss Leatha Humphries, who has been working at San Val- ' ley, Ida., returned home Friday. Joseph Hinton, who has been in Salt Lake City for some time re- ceiving medical care for his eyes, returned home recently. |
