Show REAL DANGER Dear Mr. Wallis: If it is not presuming pre-suming to much, I should like to obtain ob-tain your assistance in placing the acute fire hazard before the people of this county in that you run a fire warning on the front page of your valuable paper. The long continued draught has created a hazard that has been unknown in this locality. We have been considered one of the "None Fire Forests," but have the distinction now of having had two fires on this district within less than ten days. Each of them had been caused by smokers throwing away their matches or cigarette stumps before completly extinguishing them. One of them was in the East Fork and burned over about 7 acres and the other one in Water Canyon burning burn-ing over 25 acres. Had it not been forithe prompt and efficient control measures taken, much larger areas would have been a prey to the monster mon-ster fire. To day there is raging a fire on the Moapa Division of this Forest. Messrs. W. M. Mace, Forest Supervisor Super-visor and Ranger S. A. Macfarlane are over there now fighting fire. This fire has swept over an area of 20 square miles outside of the forest and approximate 3 square miles within the forest boundry. It would surely be appreciated if you will place the following in bold type on the front pageof your paper: "Save the Forests! Smokers, campers and tourists be careful with your fires, matches and cigarette or cigar stumps. "See that all these are completly extinguished before leaving." Thanking you for the anticipated cooperation in this matter, I remain very sincerely yours |
