Show News from Our People In the Armed Services By MABEL JAR VIS Firing Tokyo One St. George boy who is participating in the front line firing on Tokyo from the ships is David (Spence). Esplin, son of Mrs. Henry Graff of Santa Clara, who is gunner's mate on the USS Iowa, one of the first giant ships to let loose her volleys on the Jap mainland. He has been in the Navy two years and went overseas over-seas in February, 1944. He has participated in five mayor battles , of the Pacific before the present engagement. Fa fas n "Timberwolf" "There's a Timberwolf in town," states an official report just received. re-ceived. He is Capt. Ivan D. Hyatt, son of Dr. and Mrs. G. D. Hyatt of St. George. He landed in New York Monday, July 16, after serving ser-ving with the 104th "Timberwolf" Infantry division in Belgium, Holland Hol-land and Germany. He has the Unit Meritorious Service plaque and three campaign stars. His division was first to travel directly di-rectly from the U. S. to France, where they were in continuous combat for six months. This division, di-vision, which has never given an inch, is in the United States. Following furloughs, they will be given training to prepare them for further battles in the Pacific. Capt. and Mrs. Hyatt and their children expect to reach St. George about Aug. 4. Ba pa pa Returns to Post Pfc. James M. Wade, who has been home from Camp Roberts. Calif, for 15 days visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Israel Wade, left Monday for Fort Ord, Calif, where he will receive his next assignment. He reports having hav-ing had an interesting time during his several weeks of training at Camp Roberts, where he won honors as an expert rifleman, h f3 n On Instructor Dnty Putting one's thoughts down in rhyme is proving a very pleasant diversion for many boys in the service, admits Pvt. Fldon McArthur. Mc-Arthur. who is located at Camp Wofters, Texas. His most recent effort was a suggestion for the coming tomorrows. He and Leland Hirschi are in trie same platoon and were retained re-tained at Camp Wolters for in-1 strurTor duty. Thi'y often see Don Schmutz, Joe Thompson and Chester Terry, and when they go to Fort Worth, visit Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Schmutz, and on Sundays, see Mrs. Joe Thomson at church.
