Henderson who was killed in an accident in San Pedro, Calif, a month ago as he was returning to his ship from a vacation at home. Pa Pa 'A Soldier's Paradise' "A soldier's paradise," is the dsecription of Los Angeles and vicinity given by Pfc. Thomas W. Judd in a recent letter to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Judd. At the present time, Tom is attending Woodbury Business college. col-lege. He is studying ordnance and supply of the V. S. Army air corps. He graduated from Dixie junior college; went to Provo where he enlisted in the Army reserve at the B. Y. U. He was called into active service in April, 1943, and was sent to Los Angeles from Camp Kearns, Utah, where he received re-ceived his basic training. P5j pa Now Member of Seabees Recent letters to Mrs. L. A. (Blondie) Porter from Mrs. Tom Young brought word that Mr. Young, a former St. George resident resi-dent is now a full-fledged member of the Seabees, and is covering the second lap of his official training train-ing in this field of military service at Camp Peary, Virginia, where he was transferred recently from Louisiana.: He is enrolled in officers' of-ficers' training school. Mrs. Young writes from San Antonio, Texas, where she is recovering re-covering from recent surgery and says her mother, Mrs. Mora Granville Gran-ville and Mr. Young's mother are with her. She was in Louisiana while her husband was located there, but will nrohahlv c San Antonio for the duration, since 5 Mr. Young expects to go overseas ; at the conclusion of his present ! training. Sa Sa pa I Calls At News Office ( Levi C. White called at the News office Wednesday to exhibit ; the photo of his grandson, Faunt Mayhew and wife, the former Miss Mildred Juanita Everett, of Pensacola, Fla., to whom he Was married May 26 of this year. Faunt is listed as an A. R. M. 2c, and has been in the service more than two years, having completed com-pleted the required training as radio operator and repair man. He is connected with the Marine air corps and is now on the high seas, with his base as Cuba. He has seen much of the land on both sides of the big pond since he began actual service. Mrs. Mayhew writes that she : is doing her utmost to be busy and happy, while her husband is in the service. She is a recent ! L.D.S. convert and hopes to come to Dixie with her husbant when the war is over. Pa Pa Clare Paxman Promoted Clare N. Paxman now precedes his military address with Pfc. having attained this promotion recently re-cently at the Kennedy hospital, Memphis, Tenn., where he is in training in the medical division. Pfc. Paxman was inducted in Sept. 1942, and his wife, the former Gelaine Stock of LaVerkin, and their baby daughter, Vickie Anne, are doing their best to keep the absent daddy cheered up in his work. They'd like to be with him, but he needs all his time for study and training, so home will be best for them for the present, especially since he did get home for a short visit soon after Vickie Anne arrived. . ra n a Sgt. Brooks Arrives ; Master Sgt. Robert Brooks arrived ar-rived last Thursday evening from Fort Shelby, Miss., to spend a week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Brooks and family. Bob is looking a bit thin, but says that it is to be expected when one has been on maneuvers for two or three months, because that is pretty strenuous. However, he says he feels fine and hopes to go across the pond before very long. In fact he insists he is going to be disappointed if he misses that opportunity. Pa Pa Pa Ensign Pulsipher Visits Ensign Louis J. Pulsipher arrived ar-rived Sunday night from Washington, Wash-ington, D. C, to spend a week with his wife and two sons, Jerry and Richard Lee. This is his first acquaintance with Richard Lee, who is just two weeks old. Entering the service April 2, 1943, Mr. Pulsipher went first to Ft. Schuyler, New York for basic training, and was transferred after six weeks to Washington, D. C, to receive the audio visual training train-ing which he has just completed with the rank of Ensign. He is enroute to San Diego, where he will be located rather indefinitely and where Mrs. Pulsipher and the boys will join him shortly. |
