Show ! Seen and Heard 'Round the Town J By EDGAR i Lawn parties at the Williams home are earning quite a reputation reputa-tion for Roy and Ann. There is no getting around the fact that they have an ideal setting for such parties with their beautiful backyard lawn, flowers, open fire place and bake oven, lights, tables, etc. There are any number of settings that are the equal or better than the pictures one sees in the garden sections of the papers and magazines. . . . Hazel came back from California all hepped up on the idea of building a barbecue place, etc., in our back yard, but I couldn't seem to work up much interest until I saw the Williams'. Now we are already planning one as our next winter's project after the garden and yard work is over. . . . There are others around town that have visited Roy's and Ann's and have come away with the same enthusiasm. Invitation To Rodeo ! Enterprise is issuing a special invitation to the people of this , section to attend their two-day Rodeo to be held in Enterprise on July 23rd and 24th. They point out that in addition fo the Rodeo, dances and other entertainment, enter-tainment, those who like to fish can find splendid fishing only 10 miles up the canyon. For further details see story on front page of this issue. Rubbish-Weed Fires It seems to me like there ought to be; just one day a week or month; to burn trash. The way ' it is now, there is always some one letting a smudge fire stinl up the neighborhood. It isn't s bad out home, but it seems like someone is always letting a tras! fire smudge away in the neghbor hood of the News office. These hot days and nights we need aL the fresh air we can get, instead of having the air ruined by a trash fire. ... Or am I the only one who feels that way? To Remove 2000 Doe Deer The decision of the Board of Big Game control to remove 2000 doe deer this year from the Pine Valley area of the Dixie National forest came as quite a surprise to a lot of sportsmen, many of whom had advocated that there be no doe deer taken. From what I can gather relative to the de-cesion, de-cesion, it is a compromise figure between some stockmen who wanted as high as 4000 and some sportsmen who didn't want any removed. The fact that the Forest For-est officials recommended the removal re-moval of doe deer from the sug- gested area, would seem to me 'to be a pretty good indication i that they needed to be removed. ... At any rate, (providing am-; am-; munition is available) those 2000 ; doe deer should help relieve the ; meat situation for a lot of Washington Wash-ington county families. Audience With Governor While in Salt Lake City attending at-tending the meeting of the Board of Big Game control, the representatives repre-sentatives from here also secured an audience with Governor Herbert Herb-ert B. Maw, at which time they discussed the possibilities of securing se-curing additional funds with which to oil and gravel the runway on the airport. Governor May seemed quite receptive to the suggestion and made reservations with Joe Bergin and Rodney Ashby to fly down and look the situation 'over. Now, the aviation program has been cancelled out entirely. Well, at least some of the boys can now rest easy and won't have to worry about the contamination that the cadets might bring in. . . . Personally, I believe that these boys who have taken their training here have been, far above average in every respect. At least they were mentally and physically or they wouldn't have been in the air corps. The boys, with whom I have had contacts, have expressed a sincere appreciation appreci-ation for the fine treatment that they have received from the citizens citi-zens of this community and I am sure that those who had the op-., portunity to come in contact with the cadets will return this mutual feeling of good will and resrwr |
