Show Junior Red Cross Reports Many Activities In Washington County The Junior Red Cross with Mrs. R. C. Lund Jr., chairman, has been making strides in their assigned as-signed field of activities according to information in their report for the year ending, July 1943, reports Roxey S. Romney, county chairman. chair-man. Enrolment fees totaled around $35.00. They collected 300 volumes vol-umes in the Victory book drive, and 1865 pounds of rags in that salvage drive; Of these rags, 400 pounds were sold to the Power company, the money being used for the purchase of War Stamps and Bonds for the school. They also collected 37 tons of metals. Of the enrolment, 42 members have completed the first aid courses for juniors and 37 have their certificates in the water safety courses. At present a large ;group are taking these water I' safety courses with Leo G. Smith as instructor. Robert Pickett is jjassociate instructor. I.teturned from Training Mr. Smith has just recently returned re-turned from 10 days training at 1 porno Springs, at Morgan, Utah, jwhere he received certificates in 'life saving, first aid and water safety, and he is now prepared to Isupervise these activities in this ioounty. It In providing these courses in ; Uwimming and water safety, attention at-tention is called to the fact that .'America is a bathing people, but finot a swimming people. Conditions Condi-tions of the present war have made it essential that people, and especially those in military service : should have functional swimming, i This is one of the special reasons for organizing Red Cross courses in every community where pools 'are available. Classes now under way cannot jbe enrolling beginners, since this would retard the progress of those who are already well underway under-way with their instructions. However, How-ever, new classes will be organized soon for those unable to enroll with the previous groups. Announcement An-nouncement will be made later. Just now the Junior Red Cross is sending out a call for help in imaking bed slippers for soldiers. ;A11 those who are able to give this help are requested to contact Mrs. R. C. Lund Jr., phone 69-J, and get instructions. This work can be done at home and will help greatly, reports the chairman. j i |
