Show LA VERKIN La Verkin. June 24. The 20th anniversary of the organization of this ward was celebrated last Monday Mon-day with sports and contests in the afternoon and a program and ice cream at night. Morris Wilson, Jr., has been bishop ever since the organization. organ-ization. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woodbury, Wood-bury, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Woodbury, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Dalton and Mr. and Mrs. Atkin Hinton, all of Hurricane Hurri-cane and former residents of La Verkin, Ver-kin, attended the celebration. A spirited contest was had between the single boys and married men in voting for the goddess of liferty for July fourth which closed Saturday at sundown. The married men were successful in electing a married lady for goddess by two vites, Mrs. Emil Graff being chosen. The committee on recreation have a fine program outlined for the celebration celeb-ration on July fourth, with a program pro-gram in the morning and contests in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. John Judd, and Mr. and Mrs. James Judd motored out to the Grand canyon for the week end. Horatio Gubler returned last week from Smith mountain where he has been witth cattle the past month. Miss Mishie Hardy returned from Cedar City Sunday where she has been working the past month. Mrs. Delia Hardy of Hurricane spent the week here visiting at the home of William Hardy. The Virgin ball team was defeated here last Saturday by our boys with a score of 21 to 9. The farmers are harvesting the second crop of hay, which is better than the first. Mrs. Leona Segler has been on the sick list the past week but is much better now. Ervil Sanders and Whitney Jones came down from Zion park Saturday for a visit. Clyde DeMill returned Saturday from Zion canyon, where he has been working. |
