Show LIBRARY FUND DRIVE" IS I GREAT SUCCESS The country fair given in the Tabernacle Tab-ernacle grove last Thursday night, for the purpose of raising funds for the purchase of library books, was a big success from every point of view. It was something novel for St. George and proved to be very attractive. It seemed as though every person in town was there, a jolly crowd bent on fun and amusement, of which there was galores. There were many booths and sideshows. Ice cream, cake, punch, fruit, etc., was on sale at some of the booths, all of which was of excellent quality. There were fishing ponds, fortune tellers, and other side attractions, some very humorous, and the crowd was good-natured good-natured and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The program arranged was an exceptionally ex-ceptionally good one. The band, under un-der direction of Prof. Earl J. Bleak, gave very good service, including three selections on the program. Vocal numbers were given by Mrs. Una Gray and Mrs. Viola Haycock. There were two tableaux. Sentiments Senti-ments were read by Mrs. George W. Worthen which were very good and heartily applauded. A ladies chorus number. A pianologue with dramatization, drama-tization, by Miss Mary Graham and small school chldren was a splendid number and was heartily applauded. A dance by little "Jim" Thurston was encored and responded to; this little girl is a wonder. "Why Did I Kiss That Girl," a song in which six girls xrepresenting different nationalities sang a verse each, was very good, the applause drawing a repetition of the last verse. "Mr. 'Enery 'Awkins," a comic song in which Meriarn Thurston Thurs-ton appeared as 'Enery" and Bernice Foster as his sweetheart, made a great hit and had to be repeated. "The Patchwork Quilt," a silhouette sil-houette or shadow show, was very good. Everybody who took part, the women's clubs and others, are deserving deserv-ing of commendation for the hard work they put in to make a success of the fair. A goodly sum of money was raised through their efforts. Especially deserving of commendation are the women of the library committee, commit-tee, Mrs. Josephine Miles, Mrs. Rose Snow, Miss Juila Foster, and the librarian, Mrs. Roxie Romney. |
