Show First Red Cross Drive of Second 7orld War To Get Underway Monday Quota Set and Drive To Be Made In Every Community of County The first Red Cross war relief drive of the second World War will get underway Monday, with a county-wide effort being made to raise the $1250 alloted to this county. This allotment is part of the fifty million dollars which is the quota for the entire nation and is based on a population basis. Committees have been appointed in each community of the county and a well-organized drive is expected ex-pected to put this county over the top in short order, reports Mrs. Reed Blake, county chairwoman. In alloting the quotas for the communities of the county, Lawrence Lawr-ence Wadsworth, county finance chairman, reports that the population popu-lation basis was again used, as recommended by the National organization, or-ganization, and no effort was made to place it on a community's financial fi-nancial rating. Need Is National "It is unfortunate that this drive had to come so soon after the regular membership drive", states Mr. Wadsworth, "but the need for the drive is nationally recognized and has the complete backing of all the nation's leaders lead-ers from President Roosevelt on down. We must all get whole-(Continued whole-(Continued on page four) Red Cross Drive (Continued from first page) heartedly behind this drive and put it over the top in the same way that we will have to make more sacrifices before this war is won. "There is no need for anyone to wait until asked for their contribution. con-tribution. We have already received re-ceived many dollars, the first of which was given by Rass Gardner. Gard-ner. Other donations were received receiv-ed promptly from J. J. Smith, superintendent su-perintendent of the Apex mine and the Apex Mining Co., without with-out solicitation. We like the spirit in which these donations have been made and feel sure that the response of the people of this county will be prompt and that Washington county will again "go over the top". Mr. Wadsworth points out that the contributions can be made in each community to the ones in charge of the drive, to Mrs. Fin-ley Fin-ley Judd, chairwoman of the Hurricane Hur-ricane chapter; to himself or to the Washington County News. CCC camps of the county will be contacted by the community nearest near-est the camp.
