Show Bridge Across Santa Clara Creek At Indian Reservation To Be Dedicated Program Scheduled To Get Underway At 5:30 P. M., On Saturday, July 12 "All out for the big bridge celebration," cele-bration," say the people of Gun-lock, Gun-lock, Santa Clara, Ivins and the Shevwit-Paiute reservation, who are staging a big fete for the dedication dedi-cation of the new bridge over the Santa Clara creek at the Gun-lock Gun-lock crossing, just beyond the reservation, on Saturday, July 12. Heading the program committees commit-tees as chairman is F. J. Bowler former county commissioner, and Gunlock bishop, who has been working much of his life trying to get recognition on a bridge project proj-ect at this particular place. Now that the bridge has been completed, com-pleted, the people most affected desire their many friends to join them in celebrating the occasion. The program is set to commence at 5:30 p.m. There will be vocal numbers by Marion Bowler, a tribal dance by the Indians of the Shevwit reservation, in full regalia, re-galia, with explanations by Tony Tillohash, veteran Indian interpreter interp-reter and Carlyle graduate. Brief speeches will be made by Commissioners Com-missioners George H. Lytic, Newell New-ell R. Frei and Finley M. Judd; by the bridge engineer, Leo A. Snow, William Lund of Enterprise, Enter-prise, J. Lawrence Wadsworth, chamber of commerce president of St. George, and music numbers from Ivins under direction of Vernon Ver-non Tobler, work director of the bridge and by Joseph Thompson, and numerous readings by Joseph Nielsen, both of Gunlock. Special guests expected for the occasion will be Engineer R. W. McBride, formerly located in this area, and now of Alburquerque, N. M., and Mrs. Mary Ella Leavitt, Leav-itt, 80-year-old Gunlock resident who was there in the days of the big flood and knows much of the history of this location. Both Mr. McBride and Mrs. Leavitt will make brief addresses. |
