Show Memorial Services Held For Sgt. Ernest Arthur Pickering, Jr. ENTERPRISE, Utah Memorial services for Sgt. Ernest Arthur Pickering, Jr. were held in the Enterprise ward chapel Sunday, May 13, at 4 p. m. with Bishop Arthur J. Barlocker conducting. Roy Williams of Lester Keate Post No. 90, the American Legion, St. George, directed the military ceremonies. Music numbers were "Sometime We'll Understand" and "I Need Thee Every Hour" by the ward choir; solo, "In the Garden" by Mrs. Maribah Holt; duet, "Good Night Soldier" by Alta Truman and Heber M. Holt. Speakers were Jacob Truman, Albert Holt and Durward Terry. All three paid tribute to Sgt. Pickering for his sacrifice for his country and his contribution to humanity. Mr. Terry read a tribute trib-ute written by Mrs. Terry. Sgt Pickering was one of three members of the 89th Infantry division in Germany cited for "quick thinking and resourcefulness resourceful-ness during the recent crossing of the Rhine River at St. Goar." Warner of Haverhill, Mass. was gunner. Members of Co. G, 348th Infantry Regiment, "they lost no time in getting a machine gun into action . under fire on the waterfront to cover the company crossing in assault boats," says the overseas report. "The boats were subjected to murderous fire from German 20mm flack and j machine guns as well as sniper rifles, but the three gunners picked off the entrenched enemy speedily and efficiently," declares their commanding officer, John W.
