Show John William Piatt Dies At Kanarra March 12th John William Piatt, 85, first child born in that southern part of Utah Territory, which eventually became be-came Washington county, died at his home in Kanarra, Friday, Mar. 12th, of general ailments due to age and was buried in the Kanarra cemetery following impressive services held in the Kanarra ward hall Monday, Mar. 15 at 2 p. m. Born at old Fort Harmony, Jan. 17, 1858, he was a son of Benjamin Benja-min and Mary Graves Piatt. He lived in Grafton and Pinto at various times before finally making mak-ing his home in Kanarra, where he and his wife, Mina Berry, whom he married in the St. George Temple, Dec. 18, 1892, reared a large family. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, William Grant Piatt of Reno; Rulon B. Piatt of Oakland, Oak-land, Calif., Ralph Browning Piatt, now attending the University of Chicago; four daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Re-becca Hottel of Baker, Ore., Mrs. Leila Heaps, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Minnie Slack, Toquerville and Verna Piatt, Kanarra; three brothers, broth-ers, Benjamin Piatt, Saf ford, Ariz.; Robert Piatt, Newcastle, and Thomas Piatt, Cedar City; and three sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Sin-field, Sin-field, Lund, Nev.; Mrs. Mary Seeg-miller, Seeg-miller, St. George; and Marie Piatt, Newcastle, and numerous granchildren. |
