Show Wash. County G.O.P. Formulates Platform For Coming Election Deplores Orgy Of Spending; Hurricane Cut -Off, Snow Canyon Road Backed Directing attention to the need for curtailing igovernmeut spending, spend-ing, the Washington county Republican Re-publican platform declares the need for "sanity in conducting the affairs of the government". Seven other paragraphs list the program to be followed by the candidates elected on the Republican Re-publican ticket. The platform also charges that New Dealers are a "group of opportunists op-portunists who spurn principles in favor of devices; of spoilsmen spoils-men who prefer politics to merit and sincere public service; of impractical, impetuous experimentalists experimen-talists who create more problems prob-lems than they can solve". Following Fol-lowing is the platform as adopted adopt-ed at the county convention held in St. George on September 19: We endorse and pledge our candidates to support the national na-tional and state Republican platforms. plat-forms. We believe that the issues of this campaign transcend party lines and that the voters in selecting sel-ecting officers from the head of the ticket to the bottom should keep in mind that they are deciding de-ciding whether they will restore the form of government which has made our country stand alone among the nations, and whether we shall lturn to sanity san-ity and common sense in conducting con-ducting the affairs oj government govern-ment Or whether we will continue with an orgy of reckless spending spend-ing and bureaucratic government by hordes of spendthrift "yes" men. We are opposed to the dominant domin-ant philosophy and methods of the New Deal. We recognize that there are many new problems prob-lems arising out of the depression which must receive the consideration consider-ation of all parties, but we believe be-lieve they can be solved in a mere efficient manner. We maintain main-tain that we. as well as sincere sin-cere Dcmcciats, have the interests inter-ests of the common man and (Continued on page six) COUNTY G.O. P. PLATFORM GIVEN (Continued from first page) the id(;al of the more abundant abund-ant life at heart, but we cannot ajjree witli the methods of the New Deal in bringing those condition!! con-dition!! about. Their methods will prevent them from achieving the goal they say they have in mind. We charge the New Dealers with being a group of opportunists opportun-ists who spurn principles in favor of devices; of spoilsmen who prefer politics to merit and sincere sin-cere public service; of Impractical, Impracti-cal, impetuous experimentalists who create more problems than they can solve. The philsosopliy of the New Dea.1 seems to be that "the taxpayers tax-payers have plenty of funds, but they are too dumb to conduct their own affairs. They can furnish furn-ish the money and the labor and we will furnish the brains and do the spending". We are unalterably opposed to the growing practice of having to write to Washington or having to make a trip to Salt Lake for the solution of local problems by some petty politeian who does not know our problems. We believe be-lieve local pepole should have a voice in local problems, and that the best available men should be nominated and elected for that purpose. We invite genuine Democrats to join with us in driving from power those who do not keep their campaign promises, who have no platform and belong to no party. We believe our people are still capable of conducting their own affairs, and that government gov-ernment should concern itself with regulation, to prevent abuses, not with trying to monopolize mon-opolize all forms of making a livelihood and forcing people to play politics of Jefferson and Jackson, the great founders of the party, believe the same thing. We appeal to their patriotism and their loyalty to principle to stop the abuses that are now going on, and to help us achieve the more abundant life for the common com-mon man in a better way. We pledge our candidates to work for the immediate completion comple-tion of the Hurricane cut-off and the Zion Canyon road through Hurricane, also a real highway between St. George and Enterprise Enter-prise as a business proposition and in fairness to the people in the west end of our county. We recommend that the salaries sala-ries of our county employees be made comparable to those paid for similar work in the business world and in other counties of the State. |
