Show Possibilities Seen For Airport Aid Meeting Called Sunday To Discuss Forming of Aviation Club In County Returning from a meeting of Airport Air-port officials of the state held in Salt Lake City on last Sunday, Lee Owens, manager of the local field, reports that there is a good possibility of this field receiving Federal aid under the program that has been set up by the Federal government. ' Purposes of the federal legislation legis-lation were outlined to the group and they agreed to certain matters mat-ters of policy as called for in the questionnaire from the CAA. They were told that the money would be allocated over a period of two years, probably on a similar basis to that under which the federal aid highway money is distributed. After discussing the program those attending the meeting went on record favoring the distributing distribut-ing of the money on the following basis, reports Mr. Owens. Eighty per cent by the federal government, 10 per cent state government and 10 per cent by (Cpntinped on page eight) Airport Activities (Continued from first page) local sponsors. Attention was directed to the fact that Utah has four major air lines crossing it at the present time. Boys Paroled The three boys who were recently re-cently arrested by Federal investigators in-vestigators and taken to Salt Lake City for trial under the charge of destroying property on the local airport, have been paroled. It is pointed out, however, how-ever, that children or citizens destroying this property are laying lay-ing themselves liable for serious charges and that every effort will be made by local and federal authorities to see that the offenders of-fenders are caught and punished. Since appeals to good citizenship have failed in the protection of this property, the fullest extent of the law will be brought to bear on any future offenders. To Form Club lllCCllllg lltU UCC1L t-aiicia Mr. Owens for Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the Liberty hotel at which time those interested will discuss dis-cuss the possibilities of forming an aviation club in this section. Available information on the subject sub-ject will be discussed at that time. It is the hope of local sponsors that in addition to the Chamber of Commerce, the City of St. George and Washington county will join in sponsoring the local airport. To-date Mr. Owens has made six trips to Salt Lake City on problems pertaining to the field and has been very active in seeing that the field is maintained. main-tained. It is reported that he has stood the expense of the trips so far himself as well as giving his time. |
