Friends of Mrs. Helen Bleak honored her with a birthday an-I an-I niversary party at the home of iher parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. N. j Pearce last Thursday evening. jRook was the diversion. Lunch was served to 16. ; Mrs. Bert Langford was rushed ! to the McGregor hospital Monday !for an appendectomy. Her mother, Mrs. E. N. Stanworth and Mr. j Langford's mother, Mrs. L. Lang-ford, Lang-ford, both of Cedar City, arrived Monday to spend the week. Mrs. Art Kemp and Mrs. Sam Crosby were co-hostesses at a bridge luncheon held at the home of Mrs. Kemp last Thursday night. Guest of honor was Mrs. Lee Beckstrom of Pine Valley. First place honors for the evening went to Mrs. Lamond Higbee. Mrs. Rulon Pectol entertained 16 guests at dinner and cards last Sunday night, honors going to Mrs. James Andrus, Mrs. Willard Bleak and Mrs. Reed Mathis. Dilworth Beckstrom arrived last Thursday from Panguitch due to the illness of his father, Peter Beckstrom, remaining to attend the funeral services held Monday, and returning home on Tuesday morning. Mar Bracken of Central received medical treatment in St. George Saturday and Sunday, returning home Monday. Asa Judd, who is visiting in St. George with Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Cottam, is reported to have given an interesting address in the preliminary program of the east ward M.I.A. Tuesday evening, following the regular congregational congrega-tional and practice singing. Mr. and Mrs. David O. Woodbury Wood-bury entertained 15 family members mem-bers at a turkey dinner at their home last evening. Mrs. L. B. Jennings entertained at a dinner party Tuesday in honor of the birthday anniversary of her husband. The Vesta club met last week at the home of Mrs. Harold S. Snow with Miss La Vera McArthur showing her moving pictures of Hawaii. Mrs. Earl Cannon and Mrs. Henry Crosby entertained four tables at 500 at the Crosby home last Thursday afternoon. Honors for the afternoon went to Mrs. Darrel Bracken and Mrs. Rudgar Atkin. Mrs. Leah Bucholz visited with friends in St. George Monday on her way home to Salt Lake from spending a week with relatives in Veyo. Arthur Timothy returned to the Veyo CCC camp January 22 after spending ten days at the local hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Claud Allbright and small son returned last Thursday Thurs-day from a six weeks visit with Mr. Allbright's family in Indiana, and touring Chicago, Detroit and several other places of interest. Mrs. Allbright is suffering from injuries received enroute, when the car door flew open depositing her on the highway. Mr. Allbright's All-bright's brother, Gayland, returned return-ed with them. The west ward M.I.A. program last Tuesday evening included the presentation of a humorous one-act one-act play, "Who Gets The Car" directed by LaVoid Leavitt. The program for January 30 schedules an open night, and Mrs. Pearson H. Corbett is to give a book review re-view along with other special numbers. Clesta Bowler, the ' nine-year old girl of Mesquite, Nev., who was treated in the l:al hospital for burns, returned home last Friday Fri-day and is reported greatly improved. im-proved. Mrs. George Seegmiller was hostess at her home last Friday to members of the Dixie Culture club. Her daughter, Miss Betty Seegmiller reviewed Daphane Du Maurier's "Rebecca", after which lunch was served to the 12 attending. Walter Cannon and son, Howard, How-ard, motored to Los Angeles Friday Fri-day on business, returning Monday. Mon-day. While absent they visited Miss Ramona Cannon, who is attending at-tending business school there. The Bridge Ettes were guests Tuesday evening of Mrs. Frank Holland at her home. Lunch was served to 16 followed by bridge, with Mrs. Elmer Harmon and Mrs. Clark Empey winning high scores. Mrs. L. A. Porter and Mrs. Henry Crosby united as hostesses last Sunday evening at the Crosby home at an informal dinner and card party, honors going to Mr. and Mrs. Rudgar Atkin. Friends in St. George have received re-ceived announcements of the birth in Las Vegas January 16, of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Arden Sampson. Samp-son. The mother was the former Carol Bradshaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Bradshaw of Hurricane and a recognized art student of the Dixie college. |
