Show Mrs. Rodney Ashby Wins Tribune Story Prize Contest Sunday's Salt Lake Tribune carried car-ried an announcement that Mrs. Rodney Ashby of this city was December prize winner in the Tribune's short story contest. The title of her story was "The Beloved Be-loved Eighty" and covered the endearment of people for the acres of land which have furnished their subsistancc. Mrs. Ashby was formerly Miss Arvilla Bennett of Meadow, Utah, and during her high school years at Fillmore began to receive recognition for her stories, winning win-ning two prizes. After attending the B.Y.U. she married Rodney Ashby in August, 1924. but has continued writing stories. In 1929. at the age of 24, she won the Deseret News' Christmas prize money for her story, "Jake and His Wife Jane". She has also sold stories to the Women's Relief Society magazine. After their marriage, the Ash-bys Ash-bys lived in Orderville for two years where Mr. Ashby taught school, and were then located for six years in Kanab, while he was county superintendent of schools. They came to St. George last fall when he accepted a position in the Dixie junior college. They hope to make their home here indefinitely. |
