Show Fine Progress Reported By Chester A. Kemp On Mew School Building I Local Labor Used And The 250,000 Brick Manufactured Here Fine progress on the new school building is reported by Chester A. Kemp, who has the contract for its construction. A quick "once over" reveals that it is 91 x 128 feet over all and will house a gymnasium with stage and dressing dress-ing rooms, a boys work shop and girls homemaking department. It is fireproof throughout, being constructed con-structed of red brick, cement and steel. The brick are made of cement and were manufactured on the job. A total of 205,000 were used in the building. Construction started on February 1 and it is expected that the building will be done about the middle of July. The roof is a round roof with bow string truss forming a segment seg-ment roof. Heavy iron girders support the roof. The gymnasium is 54 x 80 feet with a hard maple floor. The stage is 21 x 44 with double outlets out-lets to enter the stage from the central hallway. The girls home-making home-making room is 22 x 63 feet and will have all of the necessary cabinets and other equipment needed in this department. The boys shop room is 33 x 63 feet and will be provided with benches, forges, etc. Twenty-two thousand feet of lumber were used in the trusses over the shop and home-making home-making department. A central heating plant for the new building and the Woodward high is being installed so that ' adequate heating facilities will be -available to handle the heating of both buildings satisfactorily. Mr. Kemp has received eo-siderable eo-siderable praise from townspeople over the fact that he has employed employ-ed local men and in every way possible has kept as much of the money "at home" as was possible. |
