California hunters started coming in as early as last Monday Mon-day and a considerable number have arrived today. With thousands of doe permits to be issued as well as the buck licenses, very few hunters should check out without at least one deer. In fact a lot of the sportsmen sports-men are beginning to wonder if it won't be their last "round up" of the deer, but forest officials insist that it is necessary to remove re-move at least the legal number of doe deer in order to protect the ranges and the deer them-( them-( Continued on page ten) Hunters AN Ready (Continued from first page) selves from eventual starvation. Hunters have been going over their equipment for the past several weeks to be sure that everything would be in readiness and now they are just waiting for the first gun to pop. Every precaution is urged in connection with the hunt. With so many hunters and with hunters shooting at doe deer as well as the buck, hunters are urged to be sure that it is a deer that they are shooting at and not something that has moved. So far this section has been fortunate in not having a serious accident and everything should be done to maintain this record. With a high percentage of the hunters having checked out with their deer in previous years, out-of-state hunters have gone back home boosting for this section with the result that more hunters have returned each year. Hand bills with genera) information infor-mation about the deer hunt have been published by the Washington County Wild Life Federation and are being distributed. Attention is called by the association to the fact that an increased force of deputy game wardens will be on the Dixie Forest this year with instructions to see that the game laws are ridgedly enforced in every respect. Remember the dates for the hunt are October 21 to 31 inclusive in-clusive for both doe deer and bucks. The doe permits will go on sale at 7 a.m., October 18 and may be purchased at stations to be established at Central, Pinto, Veyo, Pine Valley, Cedar City, Enterprise, Black Gulch and Santa Clara. |
