Show TAX CUTS IN COUNTY SLIGHT "While taxes levied in Utah in 1931 were $1,794,413 less than in 1930, Washington county coun-ty was among the sub-divisions of the state which suffered least by the cuts. The greatest decrease de-crease was in Salt Lake county. Decreases in the total of taxes levied, however, are sliown in every county in Utah save three, Beaver, Box Elder and Kane. In many counties the decreases are slight and probably represent repre-sent decreases in total assessed valuations rather than in levies. The increases were $13,972 in Box Elder, $S65S in Beaver Bea-ver and $33 7 in Kane. While Kane's increase was the smallest small-est in amount, it was the largest larg-est in rate, the percentage being about 5.7. In Washington county the total to-tal taxes charged dropped from $147,465 in 1930, to $147,035 in 1931, or only $430. The figures are prepared from statistics furnished by the county coun-ty auditors to the state tax commission. com-mission. The taxes charged are not all necessarily collected in the year in which they are charged. Ultimately, however, the percentage of taxes remaining remain-ing uncollected is comparatively small, since personal taxes unsecured un-secured by realty, are collected at the time of their assessment; the county usually assures the collection of taxes on realty. The taxes charged or levied include those for all purposes, county, city or town and school purposes as well as those for the state and general or the state school funds. |
