Show CABLE DELIVERS MAIL TO KANAB i , Community Isolated AYhon Heavy Snows and Floods Close Roads and Take Out Bridge. During the past 3 0 days, the four roads leading into Kanab have been blocked, due to snow, practically isolating the community com-munity from the rest of the state. The only source of communication com-munication with the outside world is by means of a cable which carries mail, freight and supplies across Big Aleadow wash where the bridge is washed wash-ed out. For three days the mail truck drivers of the system from Cedar Ce-dar City to Kanab carried the mail across the wash on their backs, but a cable system has now been put in operation. Alail and freight are transported to the man waiting on the other side of the wash. It is expected that the cable will be in use for a few days yet, or until the state road commission com-mission succeeds in getting a detour completed, making it pes-sible pes-sible for travelers to go to and from Kanab without transfer. In addition to destroying the bridge across the wash, the heavy snowfall damaged the grade to such an extent that engineers en-gineers believe a slight change in location of that portion of the highway may be necessary. The road was built only three years ago. In the meantime progress is slow on the construction of a shoo-fly detour at the bridge site on account of the soaked nature of the soil there. So mucky has it become that it is probable that the dolour highway high-way will have to be given a corduroy cor-duroy surface before it will sustain sus-tain traffic. The same conditions are delaying the construction of abutments for the temporaiy bridge. |
